About

Based in Hamilton, Cooper Scaife Architects operate throughout western Victoria. The practice has an established reputation for producing sophisticated architectural design, whilst maintaining firm control over our clients’ budgets.

Practice Profile

CSA pursue design excellence as a regional Victorian practice. The firm is led by Daniel Cooper and Bianca Scaife and is supported by a dedicated team of professional staff who bring a broad range of skills to every project. Both Daniel and Bianca studied architecture at RMIT, graduating with first class honours. Prior to entering private practice, they spent a number of years working for design offices in Melbourne, Hong Kong and the Netherlands.

Since its establishment in 2003 the range and scale of work undertaken by CSA has grown to include new houses, alterations to heritage homes, commercial, municipal, cultural tourism, education and health facilities.

Design Approach

We take a strategic approach to design and this informs decisions throughout the project, from the ‘big picture’ through to the smallest details. Throughout the design process, we forge close relationships with our clients and collaborate with them closely to achieve their goals.

Our buildings are deceptively simple. Every design is a unique and resolved response to our clients’ brief and the qualities of the place that they inhabit. We are interested in the craft of making and in creating a timeless and enduring form of design. Above all else, we seek to make architecture that elevates the enjoyment of everyday life.

Sustainability

Environmentally sustainable design is a strong focus of the practice. Every project incorporates the principles of passive thermal design and the careful selection of sustainable materials. We use quality local materials wherever possible to reduce our carbon footprint and enrich our projects with a strong connection to their region.

Carbon Neutral

As part of our ongoing commitment to addressing the climate change emergency, CSA are a carbon neutral practice. We use 100% certified green power, drive an electric vehicle, minimize our use of paper and creation of food waste. Each year, we purchase a small number of carbon credits to offset the usage we can’t eliminate.
